What’s up everyone?. Mike Rosko here! Now, for those of you who have tuned in for the previous five blogs, you know that they were about my life. It’s my life story. I’ve taken you from episode one, my first valuable lesson; all the way up until my most recent blog, which is when I hit rock bottom. In this blog, I’m going to be going into detail about how i discovered “What Is Logic?”…

Life Realization

I started to realize what I wanted in life… So that takes us to this blog where things changed from that point on when everything clicked for me…

Woke Up That Day

I just woke up one day and I just clicked. I said, all right, I’m ready. I’m ready to live my best life…

For those of you who can relate, you just realize like that is literally the best point in your life, when you realize I want to take action…

I’m ready to take control of my life and it’s going to start right now…

Well, that’s where I ended my last post. So I’m super excited for this blog post because I’m going to take you from that point until now.

Do Everything In My Power

So let’s get started. as I’m going to take you back to the day where I just woke up and everything clicked, and I just said, I’m ready. I’m ready to do everything in my power and I’m willing to sacrifice everything… Everything…

I just want to succeed…

I want to live a fulfilled life…

I don’t care I’ll do whatever it takes, I just want to get there…

My Definition of Success

For those of you who know me, my primary goal is to change others people’s lives. Not only do I want to personally achieve financial freedom, but I want to be a part of other people’s success.

So it’s actually pretty funny because ever since that day I literally have not stopped working. I have had zero social life in the past couple of years. I’ve barely even left my house…

You can ask any of my friends, family. I literally just work all day because when you want to succeed, you want to succeed…

I watched a video one day, it was a motivational video by Eric Thomas and he said, “You know when you want to succeed because you will want to succeed as much as you want to breathe!”

At the time I thought I knew what that meant, but in reality, I didn’t know what that meant until now… when currently I am doing everything in my power to succeed… I don’t care if it means giving up the next 10 years of my life. I just want to live a fulfilled life and help others do the same!

“When You Want To Succeed As Bad As You Want To Breathe!”

Why Are Only 5% Of Americans Rich?

So this is for those of you who have experienced the similar type of click that I had, but you have no idea where to start…

Well as I said, I was in the same situation. I literally knew I wanted to succeed, but I had no idea where I needed to start.

So it was pretty funny. I was just sitting there and I was thinking, “Why are only 5% of Americans rich? The USA supposed to be the promised land, it just doesn’t make any sense. Why are only 5% of people rich?”

Where To Start

So I started searching  for answers. I know a bunch of you can relate to this, but like I spent hours just searching subjects along the lines of, oh, how to get wealthy. I know everybody’s done it…

So I actually came across this book by Robert Kiyosaki called Rich Dad Poor Dad, and keep in mind, this book is a top rated book. My friend actually recommended it to me a couple of years earlier and I know a bunch of famous people have actually recommended it now.

I didn’t know whether it was a marketing tactic or whatever, but there were a bunch of famous people who said this book has changed their life. So I remember thinking, if the book ends up not being that good, I said, what’s the worst that can happen? I just wasted a few hours of my life and $5? Who cares!

I had no idea where to start. So I started reading that book. Now after reading that book, everything started to make sense. I was like, oh, well this makes sense.

Society’s Expectations Are Lies!

It’s weird because when you’re growing up, nobody teaches you any of this stuff.  I’m not going to turn this blog into bashing anybody, but it started to make sense as to why we’re not taught this stuff. Now again, I’m not going to get off course and  go onto these random topics about how everything is corrupt, but maybe I’ll do that for another post.

But this book kind of just opened my eyes and explained it more clearly  because I knew something was up. I knew none of that made sense. This book just kind of verified everything and it all started to click together.

So if you have not read that book yet, I highly recommend reading that book. I mean, it’s  the foundation for every entrepreneur.

It’s Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki, purple cover. Just read the book…

You can let me know what you think afterwards, but you need to read that book. It’s a life changer and especially if you have no idea where to begin, well read that book and then take the next step. So anyway, I read that book and I was like, Oh my God, this book is awesome. So I’m hooked and I need to read more books.

Start Reading Tons Of Books

So I start Googling top business books, the top entrepreneur books and I came across Four Hour Work Week By Tim Ferriss, Think And Grow Rich By Napoleon Hill, F.U. Money By Dan Lok, Millionaire Fast Lane By MJ DeMarco, and so on.

So I ended up reading tons and tons of books for the rest of that summer. On a side note, do you see what all 4 of these books have in common? Well… All the authors are successful… I’ll say it again, learn from people who are already successful… Stop learning from people who have yet to do it themselves!

Hardest Part Of The Process

Anyway, during that time I was trying to figure out, okay, what is a good investment. What type of business am I going to start? it took me a little while and I was trying to figure it out. And for those of you who can relate, this is probably the hardest step in the whole process…You’re so worried about failures and we’re worried about making mistakes because I’ve personally already had some business experience and I know have experienced failures.. And you know, it’s not a fun time, but that’s why they always say the ones that can rebound from failures are the ones that succeed!

So, I was running through all these ideas. I had this huge list of what I was going to invest in, what kind of businesses I was going to try and that’s when it occurred to me,..

Why don’t I just start a business that I already know the industry and I already have experience in it. So I was thinking hmm,I used to flip NFL NBA jerseys for profit, I had some success on eBay, and I’ve been working in the retail space for 5+ years, almost 10 years. So why don’t I start with something along those lines? Now, obviously I didn’t have enough capital to open up a physical retail store and who was going to give me funding to do that. So I was like, alright, I can’t start a business with a physical location, that’s not feasible. So I figured, it has to be something online…

Picked My Industry And The Searching Began!

So I started Googling, how to sell products online. For those of you who have done this before, it’s the most exciting yet frightening time! Anyway, obviously already had experience with eBay and I already understood the physical retail space, but that’s when I rediscovered the Amazon FBA opportunity…

I was like, hmm, this is interesting because Amazon literally has millions upon millions  of customers and just like eBay, you can sell products on Amazon. But  Amazon is way bigger than eBay. So I thought, okay, I already have experience on eBay, why don’t give Amazon a try?…

Private Labeling

So I started looking up all these things about Amazon FBA and I come across a couple of these guys talking about this thing called private labeling. And I’m like, hmm, that’s interesting because I used this source NFL and NBA Jerseys from China and sell them on eBay.

So what these guys were teaching people to do was to use this chrome extension called Jungle Scout, which was a sales estimator for all Amazon products. So what you do is you would type in some product and you would run the sales estimator and you would see what types of products were in high demand/how many units were selling per month.

Then what you would do is source a similar product from sites like Alibaba or any website from China –> Slap your brand name on that generic product you had bought –> List your product on Amazon –> Run ads, run PPC, and try to rank it on the first page and have customers purchase your product.

Another Attempt, Well… Sort Of…

So since I had some experience sourcing products from China, with my NFL and NBA Jerseys and selling them online on a platform eBay, I thought,  hmm, this is interesting. I mean it doesn’t really make sense because who’s gonna buy my product? But you know what? It seems to be the wave and I’ll give it a try and see what happens!

I mean, I had no experience with advertising online. I didn’t understand what keyword research was, PPC, any of that stuff, that wasn’t my specialty, but I said, whatever, I’ll give it a try. So I started going through these products and doing product research, trying to find that one “home run” product.

At first I came up with this makeup remover kit and I started contacting manufacturers on Alibaba, trying to get samples of this product so I can list it on Amazon and sell it. But then I was like, eh, not this product even after contacting tons and tons of manufacturers…

Makeup Remover Kit

Different Attempt, Using More Logic…

So I started looking for a product again and I remember thinking to myself, all right, so what’s the future going to be like? What can I sell that’s going to blow up in the future? So I actually came up with 3D printers and I knew this industry is probably going to boom within the next five, ten years…

3D Printer

So I start looking at 3D printers and doing all the product research and I came up with 3D printer filaments, which is like the ink for a regular printer, but for 3D printers for those of you who do not know what 3D printers are.

So I’m thinking, alright, sick, I’ll give this a try. So I went on Fiverr and I got a logo made and I started contacting tons of manufacturers. I found a couple and I wanted them to send me samples so I could check it out. But then I realize, oh wait, I don’t even have a 3D printer to test it out. So I was like, hmm, what to do, what to do?

What Is Logic? Who's Going To Buy This?
Logo I Had Designed For 3D Printer Filament Refills

I Realized…

That’s when I realized this really doesn’t make sense. I mean, how would I ever succeed with this product. I have no idea how to do keyword research, how to run advertisements, deal with PPC. I didn’t know any of that stuff and WHO IS GOING TO BUY MY PRODUCT?

I named it high performance filaments. But I was just thinking  who is going to buy this product? Why, why would I sell this product? People only bought the NBA and NFL jerseys because everybody knows what the NBA and NFL merchandise. Who would buy my unknown brand name filament over something like Dikale or Hatchbox? Who was going to buy that plus who even knows what the quality is like?

Also, if you remember, my first business failed because I was selling fake NBA and NFL Jerseys. So eBay suspended my account and my friend’s account. So I’m like, alright, I already learned my lesson once. Why would I set myself up for failure again?…

Using Logic!

So I completely cut that off. You know, It’s pretty funny because I actually still have manufacturers contacting me on my old email trying to sell me product. But anyway, I’m sitting there, I’m thinking, okay, so I know I want to sell online, but what can I do?…

What Is Logic? Not Buying Fake Products From China!
Manufacturers STILL Contacting Me To This Day!

So I’m thinking, okay, Mike, sell things that already sell. Don’t sell fake stuff. Sell the real stuff, but sells stuff that already sells. Now what does the supermarket do? How did it get so big? So I’m thinking, okay, well they sell stuff that already sells. They’re selling like Proctor & Gamble products, Nabisco, Nestle, all these huge brands.

That’s when I realize that’s , what I should be doing, here, I should be selling big name brand products on Amazon when I obviously already had years of experience in the retail space. So I know how the retail space works and I’m going to go over that in more detail in a different blog, But that’s when it hit me…

I was like, okay, let’s just sell high quality stuff that customers already want to buy and make profit off of it. I mean it’s literally the oldest method in the book. So then I remember Googling top Amazon third party sellers, and what do you know?

I pull up the list of the top sellers on Amazon, Pharmapacks, eTailz, Avalanche Brands, etc. I start and I go look at their storefronts, what products are they selling? They’re selling big name brand products. So I’m like, okay, I’m onto something that just verified my thought process. I was like, alright, I’m ready to go.

Mentor Helped Me Through The Process

So next step I thought, okay, so how do I generate sales on Amazon? So I found a mentor and he guided me through how the actual sales worked on Amazon. I mean I already knew the whole retail space. So all I needed to do was figure out how do the actual sales work on Amazon.

I’m going to go into more detail in a different blog post of how the retail space actually works because it’s a lot of information. But I found a mentor and he helped me figure out how sales worked on Amazon. At that point, I knew I was ready to go.

Take Action > Fear

For those of you who know, taking action is both exciting and frightening at the same time! Like you’re so ready to start, but you’re also entering the world of the unknown. And actually I think people DON’T take action because they’re scared of this “unknown world.” They’re thinking about their failures and getting stuck rather than the actual opportunity that is being presented…

So anyway, my first step, I actually contacted the supplier that supplied the supermarket to see if I can buy product off of them. But at the time I didn’t realize I actually needed a company in order to buy from a supplier. So immediately I opened an LLC and the rest was history.

I mean I’ll definitely go into more detail in different blog posts. I don’t want to go into full on detail of certain parts of the business in this post because this is supposed to be an post about my story, but I was literally able to build a six figure online retail business in less than six months. I mean, some of you may not think it’s that big of a deal. But you have to realize how many lessons I learned just in this short amount of time, how much action I took, the capital I was leveraging, and all the mistakes I had made and learned from….

You have to realize growing a six figure business in less than six months is pretty good. I mean, it’s not meant to toot my own horn. It’s just more meant for you to realize the opportunity that comes with Amazon and to show you that literally anybody can do it…

To go from Rock Bottom to a 6 figure online retail business in less than 6 months is pretty impressive…

I mean it’s not only limited to Amazon, you can also sell on other platforms. I was selling on eBay and I’m trying to get into a Walmart. I’m currently looking to expand internationally, you have to realize, there’s so much opportunity online. The customer base is huge.

The Transition

People have to realize there’s a reason why the Best Buys are closing, Game Stops are closing, etc. All these physical brick and mortar retail stores are closing because it’s all transitioning to online. So people have to realize the huge opportunity there is with selling on Amazon, selling online in general, and what products should we be selling online again?…

High quality, big name brand products. Why? Because people already buy these products. People already WANT to buy these products. These brands are already spend millions upon millions of dollars advertising. Okay?

You don’t need to advertise. All you’re doing is buying them from an authorized supplier (that has full permission and legal right to sell these big name brand goods) at a lower cost and selling them at a higher price and thus getting profit. It’s a simple business model. I just need people to recognize that there is an opportunity for this…

What is up everyone! Mike Rosko here with blog post number five of my life story! Is investing gambling? In this episode I’m going to be continuing on with my life story. For those of you who have not listened to the first four episodes, feel free to tune in. You know, it’s all a big continuation. And for those of you who have been listening to all them, thank you so much. I really appreciate it.

I’m hoping you guys have learned a decent amount just from the stories alone and I hope you guys can relate to some of the situations I’ve been in. So as you guys have known, whoever has tuned into the previous blog post, I left off saying that, you know, I had hit rock bottom. Now I’m not going to go into detail because that kind of stuff, I like to keep private. So let’s just continue on with the story of where we left off last time.

Led to Negative Mindset

So anyway, I have these health issues and I’m sick for about a year and a half. And for, you know, those who have been sick, sick, you know, like everything that goes wrong goes wrong because in your head you’re just negative about everything because it’s just the way it is, you know? So for those of you who can relate, you know exactly what I’m talking about, but even, even if you’re not sick, sick, if you do sick and, um, you know how it is, you wake up, you’re like all another day and I’m still sick, blah blah blah. You know how it is.

Like you literally have no desire to get up every day and do anything. And you know, when you’re sick, like you don’t even know the result, any of that. So at this point, I’m done with college, I stopped looking for jobs, still had my job at the supermarket, but I had like no desire to move forward. I had that YOLO attitude, you know, you only live once and I just started gambling. I mean, I, I’ve done it before in high school, you know, side bets, but nothing crazy.

Introduction To The New World

And you know, at first it didn’t really work out until a friend of mine introduced me to DraftKings and I was like, what is this? And my friend explained the concept where it’s like fantasy football, fantasy baseball, but you pick your lineups every day and you have to fit your lineup within a certain salary. I’m wondering, is this investing or gambling?

So I’m like alright, that actually sounds pretty cool! I really had nothing else to do or look forward to. Because I wasn’t looking for a job or anything, so I was like, I’ll give it a try. Why not? So for the first couple months, I try it out. I’m flat out terrible at it. So I started Googling. I’m like, okay, how do you make good DraftKings lineups? So I clicked on a bunch of articles, and I came across a tip that informed me to study the elite DraftKings players’ lineups everyday.

1st Unintentional Discovery Of How Important Mentors Are

Is Investing Gambling?

So I say to myself, “Oh yeah, that makes sense!” Like the same exact people almost won every day, so why wouldn’t I study them? And it’s funny because most people would like think of gambling as, oh, you lose all the time, blah, blah, blah. But actually with DraftKings, there is a certain strategy where you can construct your lineup and can win a decent amount of time. So is investing gambling?

So every day for like a month I would study the elite players. Every time I would look up each contest and would scroll to the top and I would just keep seeing the same names at the top and I just started studying their lineups.

Trying to determine how they were constructing each lineup. I tried to enter their minds and think why would they choose this player here that player there, etc. . And as I started to learn what they were doing and recognized the pattern.

Learning From Mentors Leads To Shortcuts

I actually started getting a lot better at DraftKings after just 1 month of studying the elite players’ lineups! And it’s funny because at the time I didn’t realize this, but this is where like mentors come into play because if you’re learning from somebody that’s already winning, then you have a better chance of winning because they won all the time.

And that’s the same thing with business. If you learn from somebody who’s already done it, then they save you time, money, mistakes you may have made without one therefore increasing your chances of success in less time because you’re learning from people who have already done it.

So in this case, I was studying lineups of people who are winning almost every single day. But like I said, I didn’t even realize what I was doing, but now that I look back at it, I’m like, oh wow. I was looking at as them as mentors.

The Process

So anyway, so I remember when I first started, I tried some MLB lineups, lost money, blah, blah, blah. And then I transitioned to entering NBA contests and the first couple of months we’re like, eh. And then I realized, oh, let’s start studying the top people who went all the time.

Like I said, I studied their lineups for a month or so and it was now about November. And I just start winning, winning, winning…

I’m like, “Oh my God. Like I can actually be really good this!” So starting in November, I just started winning tons of money and then early January rolls around and I’m watching my lineups and all of a sudden…

I see I’m in 1st place in one of the huge tournaments and I’m freaking out! Like when you clicked on the “Contests” tab it literally said $50,000+ now and this was at like 11:30 PM!

So I’m thinking, alright, so most NBA teams’ games are pretty much over. So I called my friend, I’m like, “Yo, I’m about the send you a picture right now.. Check it out!

I send the picture and he’s freaking out, “Oh no way are you really about to take this tourney down!” So I’m watching the contest all the way up until like 12:30 AM or so and I’m not sure if it was the only game left, but I know the Los Angeles Lakers game was still on.

The Final Stretch

So at this point I’m so close I can taste it, I’m literally ready to pass out from shock…

There were other players just under me aka lower scores than me, well not really just under me, but within the top 500 top scores that still had Lou Williams left. And you know, the fourth quarter started in the Lakers game.

And let me tell you something, when Lou Williams gets hot for those of you who watch basketball, you know, he can go off and put up a lot of points. He can fill the box score up quickly…

So this is actually on January 8th (yes of course I remember the date…) and I’m pretty sure they were playing the Oklahoma City Thunder and Lou Williams fourth quarter was absolutely ridiculous… He went off…

I remember, I’m sitting there watching my lineup and some of the other lineups behind me and all you see is that they’re just climbing the leader board literally every five seconds. They’re just climbing and climbing and climbing. And by the end of the night, I ended up finishing like eighth or something, so I won a decent chunk of money, but it wasn’t the $50K that I wanted…

No Way Would It Happen Again…

And the craziest thing was this same exact thing happened a couple of days later. Lou Williams, fourth quarter, somebody had him underneath me, they passed me and I got knocked out of 1st place once again… So I had two days where I literally could’ve won a combine 6 figures…

That’s kind of when I learned like, okay, my lineup, construction is perfect. I know what I’m doing, I learned from the best, I’m ready to go. So for the rest of the regular season, I won a decent amount of money. I had built my bank roll up just in time for NBA playoffs and MLB.

But for some of you who know in the NBA playoffs there is far less consistency, the stats are all over the place… So I actually ended up losing money then and I ended up losing money with MLB as well…

Wrong Mentality

But unfortunately I had the mentality of, oh well I did it this year, so next year I’m going to be able to do the same thing…

Well… I couldn’t have been more wrong…

Draftkings doesn’t work like that… So the next NBA season comes up and you know, I still had some bankroll and had money to toy with and I started the season off cold and I’m like, oh no… But, I still had that same mentality. I did it last year last year, so you know, I can do it again.

But I didn’t really realize that everyone around me can get better too. They could’ve just did the same thing I did and just study the people one all times studying in lineups. But again, November comes around and for some reason that’s just my lucky month. That’s just my best the starting point. I don’t know if players just needed September and October to just get used to their role or whatever, but I don’t know, I just started winning.

I started actually qualifying for those of you who have never played DraftKings, I start qualifying and taking down some of the top dogs, like Sahil Sud in qualifiers which me means I won tickets to certain contests by having the highest score in them.

And if you guys don’t know who Sahil Sud is, he’s literally the top DFS (Daily Fantasy Sports) player like ever. He’s literally made millions off of DraftKings.

So again, I’m on top of the world, you know, doing my thing, winning some money. But all of a sudden, I think February I hit a point where I started losing money and I didn’t really know why,..

So I was on Twitter at the time just hanging out scrolling through the feed and I remember just seeing a bunch of tweets from accounts about selling lineups and softwares and lineup generators on DraftKings for “X” amount of dollars. So at the time, I’m not thinking anything of it, but eventually I put two and two together and I started seeing a bunch of people with the same exact lineups within every contest. So I’m like, what’s going on here?

The King Has Retired

I also noticed that Sahil Sud quit playing and he started selling his own lineup generating software and I was like, that’s weird. I mean the guy wins all the time. Why? Why would he stop playing?

So I just kept losing, losing and I just decided to stop in general. And it occurred to me like if, if Sahil’s going to stop playing, that means that he doesn’t think he can win anymore. So I’m going to do the same thing.

You know? I was feeling kind of disappointed though because like I was going through that rough patch and you know, DraftKings had kind of cheered me up. It gave me some life. It made it really fun, you know? But unfortunately good things come to an end, right?

The Return Of The Bad Mindset

So I go back to that negative mindset, you know thinking, Oh why me? Why this, why that I could already had a job by now, blah blah, blah, blah blah. And just thinking so negatively for a couple of months. For those of you who know, you know…

It Clicked

But then I remember just one day just waking up and it clicked…

I don’t know if any of you have ever just clicked randomly, but I literally woke up one day. Sun was shining, gorgeous day, looked outside. I was like, wow, what a day…

And it just clicked..

I was like, I am ready… I’m ready…

And I don’t know what happened. But ever since that day, life has been absolutely incredible. Life has been amazing…

I don’t know if any of you have ever had that happen to you, but it is quite the feeling, it’s essentially indescribable. Like I just clicked, I was just ready…

And that was when I realized, okay, I only live once, I’m gonna make the most of. It’s just, I don’t know how long I’m going to be here. I am going to make the most of my life. I’m ready…

I remember just sitting there staring at my ceiling and I remember thinking…

“We live in America, only 5% of Americans are rich. Why are only 5% of people rich in America? This is the promised land. Why is that? Like it doesn’t even make any sense. We’re supposed to be that nation, the best nation in the world.”…

So I hopped the bed a bed, got my laptop, and I typed him, “Why are only 5% of Americans rich?” on Google And I just started reading articles. Nothing really that crazy, but I was just curious. So then I went on Google again and I typed in “how to get rich”, searched through a bunch articles, all those blah blah blah.

Then I happened to come across this book. You know what my friend actually mentioned this book a couple of years ago and I’ve heard a bunch of famous people talk about this book and I read this book. This book is called Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki

This book was kind of like the start of my life changing…

I also knew a bunch of famous people have come out and they said the same is happening to them…

So if you have yet to read that book, I highly recommend you go read it. Click Here on the link, it’ll take you to Amazon and buy it on Amazon. It’s only like $5! But it is worth thousands!

Go read that book. And now that book kind of an made me understand like, okay, now I know why only 5% of people are rich. We’ve been taught the wrong way our whole lives. Well most of us, not all of us, most of us, we’ve been learning from people who aren’t even successful…

Think about that…

We’re learning from our parents, teachers, people who just aren’t successful…

What’s Your Definition Of Success?

Now keep in mind, everybody’s definition of success is different. But my definition of success is financial freedom. I want to be able to do whatever I want to do every day, whenever I want…

So I’m not going to sit here and learn from my parents, my school teachers, and my college professors. I’m not going to sit here and learn from them when they’re not even successful themselves…

So this book, goes through a whole bunch of stuff, you just need to read it ASAP. But this book opened up not only my eyes, but tons of other people as well, to everything and it helped shape me to who I am today!

You know, it’s actually pretty funny cause I don’t think I had read a book in like 10 years before I read that book. And that day I clicked, I just knew like I needed to live a fulfilled life.

Shortly after I read Rich Dad Poor Dad, I started looking up book recommendations. What books should I read? So I put together a huge list and I ended up reading a ton of books in the upcoming months.

I was ready,.. I wanted to change…

I don’t know about you guys, but have you ever got to the point where you’re like, I’m not happy with my life right now. I want change!

And now for those of you who don’t realize, in order for your life to change, YOU need to change it. Okay?
YOU, YOU, YOU control your life, YOU control your life, I can’t stress that enough!!!

I’m telling you this and I’m repeating myself because yeah, you can sit down and learn for 12 hours a day. Yeah, you can read all the books in the world. And yeah, you can follow your mentors around and learn from them…

But none of that matters if you don’t TAKE ACTION yourself. You need to take action in order to be successful!

But it’s funny because there are people that just take action. They just jump into things without educating themselves and trying to learn from mentors. They don’t try to gain the knowledge. They don’t read books, any of that! That could be a disaster too!

But I do see from watching other people, that the hardest part for people to do is take action…

But you need to find that fine line between learning and taking action!

So with having said that, I’m going to stop this blog post here and I’m going to continue telling my life story in the next blog post so stay tuned!

I hope you guys have that moment or get to experience that one moment because the feeling is indescribable, it’s incredible!

But anyway, in the next post I’m going to continue on with the life story and I hope you guys are able to tune into that one because that’s when I will tell you about how I started taking action. What is going on guys! Mike Rosko here! This is going to be my 4th blog post of my life story. I’m excited for this post because I’m going to be running through like what happened after my first business failed. Like what did I do? So that’s where we’re headed in this blog post. So let’s get to it.

So in the first three posts I spoke about how I learned my first valuable lesson about money, how I started my first business, how I expanded my first business, and talked about how we failed. I partnered up and we ended up failing because eBay actually suspended both of our accounts because we were listing the NBA/NFL jerseys as new, stitched, and authentic. And we had a couple of customers complain which led to the suspension.

Next Chapter

And we decided, okay, you know what? We’re just going to focus on school. Because when you’re growing up, you’re taught by your parents, your teachers, everybody, “Oh make sure you go to college, get a degree, and then get a job.

You know, it’s funny, back then I was like all into it! It was like, oh yeah, let’s go follow the plan, but now I look back and laugh because of what I know now. I look back and I’m like, man, I could have saved so much money, it was just stupid. And it kind of shows you, you know, you don’t have to always listen to the mainstream opinions and try to stay up with the society’s norms.

When you’re born you grow up into an environment where you’re told to do this, this, this, and this and that’s how you’re going to be successful. People decide to follow that guideline because a lot of people don’t like creating their own direction and plan. They need to just follow somebody else’s game plan, which is why, only 5% to 10% of people are wealthy and the other 90% to 95% are stuck in this trap where they think their life is so awesome. But in reality, deep down it’s just killing them.

Experience Is Learning

So anyway, I’m not going to say I totally regret going to college and getting my degree because I met some pretty awesome people that I actually do speak with about business and of course it was an experience and I definitely learned a lot of lessons.

I’m not going to sit here and say, oh college, it’s terrible you, nobody should ever go. That’s not necessarily true. If you’re going to be a doctor, a lawyer, engineer or something, or even if you’re just comfortably want to live, like just work 40 hours a week, go home to your family, just live like an average person. There’s completely, there’s nothing wrong with it.

My Events

I used to teach at events with my friends. I used to contact my friends and say, “Hey listen, like if you want to learn how the wealthy are getting wealthy, I’d be more than happy to teach you. I’m learning directly from millionaires, they’re my mentors and obviously they know how to get wealthy, because well… they are wealthy. I could teach you.”

So some of my friends showed up to multiple events and they stuck through it, keep in mind I wasn’t charging anything. I was teaching multiple times a week and they would bring their notebooks, take notes, ask questions, the whole deal and they were so into it. But towards the end one of my friends comes up to me and he’s like, “Listen man, like I learned a lot from you but I just don’t think I want to take that path.”

And I’m like, “Dude, it’s, it’s completely fine. Like I get it.” My point is, people are more than happy with just being comfortable, which is fine.

Freedom Is The Goal

I mean me personally, comfort isn’t my game. I just feel like I only have one life and I just need to make the most out of it and I just need to live life stress free. I just want to be able to wake up everyday and just say, “Hmm, what do I want to do today?”

Rather than being woken up by an alarm and immediately think, well I have to get to work and deal with all that nonsense of people telling you want to do, customer complaints, operational issues, and so on. You know exactly what I’m referring to.

But anyway, that’s just not me. My goal is to live as much of a fulfilled life as possible, I want to be able to give back and be the cause of others having an opportunity as well. I want to be able to change the world, but that’s my perspective. I respect everyone’s opinions, you do you.

However, if you feel the same way as I do and have yet to do anything, then it’s your time to do something about it!

Again, if you’re not like that, if you just want to live comfortably, that’s up to you. I’m not gonna knock you.

But anyway, I got sidetracked there, so let me just backtrack. So my friend and I, our first business failed and we went to college. We went to community college and we make it our priority.

After my first semester at Brookdale Community College, I made a commitment. Alright, from here on out, I’m going to get a 4.0 for the rest of my community college schooling, and I ended up getting A’s and everything, which was really cool.

So fast forward, I got to the point where I was like, alright, I have to transfer, so I can finish school and get my 4 year Bachelor’s degree. And I remember I actually stayed an extra year because I was fighting with my parents on what school I was going to go.

What Was My Choice?

I remember sitting down on the computer, and Googling, “What are the best business schools in the U.S.? Okay, one, two, three, and they all happen to be big schools such as University of Michigan, University of Virginia, so on.

I remember looking at the price and was like wow, “$50,000 a year. I’m like, what? That’s crazy. But you know, I would be getting the best business education at these schools.” At the time I thought I was, but now I realize like most of these professors who were teaching business classes, they never ever even ran a business in their life…

They’re just teachers that are teaching from a textbook and teaching you concepts about business. But you know, at the time I thought, oh, but Google says there’s the top business schools, so if I attend one of these schools, I’ll learn a lot.

I was arguing with my parents about where I wanted to finish up my schooling. But my mom refused to agree because she wanted me to just save my money and go to Rutgers. Now at the time, well I think they still have it, but they have a program where you can get your bachelor’s degree from Rutgers through Brookdale Community College.

This way was like a quarter of the price, which was awesome. Plus I was getting scholarships because I ended up with a high GPA. I think I ended up with a 3.9 but I would have to look that up to verify it.

But anyway, so I was fighting with her. I was like, “Oh yeah, but it’s not going to be as good, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.” You don’t want to go to University of Michigan, whatever. I was fighting with her. So I spent a whole extra year at Brookdale, but I ended up working two jobs at the time while taking a few classes. At one point I was putting in 80 hours of work a week. I was still at the supermarket and I end up getting a job at Dairy Queen too that way I was still making money.

The Decision

So for a year I’m fighting with her and I ended up agreeing I’ll just do Rutgers through Brookdale because it’s a lot cheaper. Why not? You know, it’s still a piece of paper degree. But at the time I didn’t realize that the education didn’t really matter because anywhere in college, the education is just eh anyway, you know?

So I ended up going to Rutgers through Brookdale and the schooling was a little bit different. At Brookdale I was able to just take notes, listen and not really worry about homework because we didn’t really have much homework, so I was actually able to learn a decent amount. But when I went to Rutgers it was like, way different, it was almost as if you were trying to play catch up the whole time because there was just tons and tons and tons of work. I also felt like I didn’t learn a single thing at Rutgers…

If anything I felt like I got more dumb. Because they broke the concepts down so far, that common sense became overthinking…

Too Much

Anyway, I remember the very first semester I kept both the jobs and I went to Rutgers and that’s when I decided, alright, I need to quit the second job because I was staying up til like 4/5:00 AM and then going to work at 8 AM and working until 4:30 PM then going to class at 6 PM.

On the weekends I would work from 5:30 in the morning until 2 PM then go straight to the other job and work 2:30 PM until 11 PM so after that first semester it was kinda like, alright, that’s a little bit too much to handle.

But it’s kind of funny because it’s kind of similar to what I do now. You know, I work all day every day, not much of a social life, but it’s different. Because when you’re in school it’s like you’re put on this mission where you need to get that 4.0 GPA. Like school is all that matters. College is all that matters because once you get that degree, it sets you up for life. You get a job, this, and that and so on.

But nowadays I just don’t feel that pressure. It was just that 4.0 stigma around. It was just like, alright, I need to be at the top. I need to be the best I can be so I can get a job because then I’m going to be set for the rest of my life. This is so important, I need to do that.

So that first semester I actually ended up getting a B+, which by the way should’ve been an A-. But for some reason Rutgers doesn’t have A-‘s. There on after, I made the same commitment I had made after my first semester at Brookdale. I was like, alright, I’m gonna get a 4.0 the rest of the way.

The Results

So I ended up coming close, but I got another B+ because like I said, Rutgers doesn’t have any A-‘s for whatever reason. I actually ended up getting like a 92.3 average for one class and that ended up being a B+, even though an A was a 93 so I was like 0.2 points shy of an A.

I emailed my professor multiple times asking him what I could do to bump my grade up to an A. He’s like, there’s nothing you can do. So it was literally a quarter worth of a test question and it cost me a B- over an A. So I ended up with like a 3.9 at Rutgers, I can’t remember, I would have to look that up too.

Graduation Day

Now I want to take you to graduation day…

I remember just sitting in the auditorium at Susquehanna Bank Center on May 21, 2015 and I was just thinking like, how did I get here? I was feeling a little confused that like after everything, it would just end there. And I was like, how did I get here?

I mean I’ve been blindly following, society’s norm for 15 years moving towards this one goal. And I was just feeling eh, alright, whatever…

I will be graduating college and I remember how excited my family was and my mom even turned and said to me, “Aren’t you excited? You’re finally done with college? And I’m just like, ” Honestly no, not really.” It was just, it was a weird feeling. Like I wasn’t even excited.

Anyway, I’m sitting in the auditorium I’m looking to my left. I’m looking to my right, I saw like thousands of other people in the same situation. Only they had smiles on their faces. I don’t know I just feel like accomplished. I mean when you look around you see like thousands of other people doing the same thing. To me personally that’s just like, alright, okay cool, yay I’ve accomplished what thousands of other people have accomplished.

I mean maybe I got a better GPA than most people, maybe that’s something to be proud of? But to be honest I just didn’t feel excited. I don’t know did any of you guys feel the same way if/when you graduated college?

What’s Next?

So anyway, the day has finally come. I was finally graduating college that day. My parents, my teachers, everyone else has told me about for years. Oh you need to get a college education so you get a good job. Sure, tonight would be a lot of celebrating with my family. But what about the next morning?…

Like that’s when we all get the chance to meet the real world, but that’s when it hit me…

You know, I had worked in a supermarket for, at the time 5+ years already, like it’s not anything exciting. Like, I’m not going to say I hate it, but it’s not like, oh, it’s what I want to do every day. That’s when I realized that the real world isn’t really going to be any different…

The Real World

I mean for most people who graduated with me, if we were able to find jobs they were going to be entry level jobs and we would be making like 30K or 40K a year. So I’m thinking, this is what I worked my whole life for? Ummm okay…

I have worked my whole life for something that, for most people, is barely enough to cover monthly payments for student loans. I mean luckily I went to college at a cheaper cost, which was awesome. And as you know, I was able to get some scholarships and work while going to school, therefore I was able to just save more and more money. Luckily I was able to pay it off really fast.

But, but keep in mind, now you can’t wipe out student loans even if you declare bankruptcy. So, I remember just sitting in the uncomfortable auditorium chair “listening” to the speech, I forget exactly who it was that was speaking, but he was giving it boring speech. It felt like he was up there talking for like an eternity. I’m thinking, “Just call us up already!”

Doing The Math

But I remember just sitting there like thinking about other people’s loans and doing a math in my head. “Okay, so it might take a year to get a job and you know, you’ll start off if you’re lucky at $40,000 a year. Okay… And some of these people’s loans were like $120,000. Uh, how are you going to pay it off unless you’re like some super saver like me but most people aren’t even good with money.” If you remember I told you in my first blog post about how I learned my first valuable lesson about money.

I’m continuing to think, so mixing that student loan debt and the job market, how are you going to pay enough to cover the costs of the education?…

Supply And Demand

It’s also pretty funny cause like it’s basic economics if you think about it. I want you to think about this for a second…

So you have millions of people getting college degrees every year, right? If there’s only thousands of job openings and there’s millions and millions of college graduates thus there’s less of a demand for a job, then it’s going to drop the salary. It’s going to make it more competitive and you know it’s not going to be an outcome that you expected. The outcome that you were taught since you were born, which is what’s pretty funny.

My Advice

Today as I’m writing this, that’s why trade is on the rise because a lot of these guys are retiring soon and there’s not going to be enough jobs to fill. But people always need, plumbing work done, electrical work done, all that stuff. So if you’re not going to start a business or are one of the few that are lucky enough to land an awesome job, my advice is if you’re going to start now, get into a trade because in 10 years, again basic supply and demand, again, lack of supply, high demand.

I’ll explain this scenario now…

Lack of supply, high demand will drive the wages up. You’re going to be making a lot more money if you get into trade now…

Unintentional Concept Discovered

But anyway, I looked around and I saw all of my fellow college graduates smiling, but like I said, I wasn’t excited at all. I also forgot to mention, I actually finished my last two years of school in just a little bit over a year.

I actually accelerated my schooling and this was when I got a first sense of opportunity costs. It’s funny because this was when I was actually comparing myself to other people like, “Oh my God, everybody else has already graduated last year. I need to just speed up the process and just get it done.”

And that’s when I, well at the time I didn’t realize what opportunity cost was… But that was an opportunity cost because I was thinking, if I waited one more year, that’s one year of salary right there that I could have been making had I stayed a whole extra year. So at the time, like I didn’t realize what opportunity cost was, but that was like a prime example of when I discovered it. And now that I look back at it, I’m like, oh, that’s why I did it. I just didn’t know the word for it.

Relate That Concept To Business

Opportunity cost is huge in business and you’ll learn that because those of you who know me is, I always preach about time. Money is unlimited, you can earn money any way you want, but your time is limited.

So anyway, when I looked around, I saw all of them smiling on graduation day. I mean at first I was confused, but not for me, for them because for me, I knew what my next step was. As you know, I had a ton of money saved up. I had no debt. So I was actually plan on traveling for a year or two before I actually went to get a job.

From The Top Of A Mountain To Rock Bottom

But unfortunately that couldn’t happen because that’s when health issues came into the picture. And rather than taking a step forward and following my plan, I had to take a couple steps back…

It was weird though, because I knew I felt off for like a year or two. Like I knew something was wrong because I just didn’t feel right. You know?

I always felt tired. I felt just weak. And it was weird because I was playing basketball all the time and I remember looking at everybody, I’m like, how do you like not get tired? Don’t you get tired? Like I’m one time down the court. And I’m like dead… Well obviously not literally, but I would almost pass out, throw up, collapse, you know. So I never really actually played at 100% I would just like, you know, play offense, not play defense, and so on.

New Lifestyle

But I just knew there were some wrong for a while. So I graduated college, had fun the whole summer and in September I went to my mom and I was like, “Listen mom, I just don’t feel right like would it be cool if we went to the doctors?” So she took me to the doctor, they sent me to other doctors, I got tests done, all that stuff and that’s when I hit rock bottom, the lowest low of my life…

When Rock Bottom Is The Best Thing To Ever Happen To You

It’s actually pretty funny now because I look back and I say that was literally the best thing that has ever happened to me. And some of you are listening are probably like what? What are you talking about? Yeah…

Well I hate to break it to you, but I’m going to cut this blog post short because we’ve been going for a decent amount of time. I just want to thank you guys for reading! I hope you enjoy this piece and tune in tomorrow for the follow up blog post! I’m really excited for that one because then I’m going to keep following up on my life story. So again, thanks so much for reading and I look forward to tomorrow’s post. Thanks guys, talk soon!

Thinking Outside The Box

What is up everyone?!? Mike Rosko here! I’m super excited for this blog post because it’s a continuation of the previous post!

Now for those of you who have listened to my first two episodes of my podcast, you understand that the two stories I told were crucial points in my life, but at the time I didn’t realize how much of an impact they actually had on my life.

I asked you guys to go think back to a time you had your first epiphany that had an impact on how it shaped you today. Epiphanies are literally life changing. Again, you might not realize it, but they’re huge.

So this post is going to be a sequel to the last episode, where I got my first business experience. So if you happened to miss yesterday’s post, I recommend maybe going back and listening to it that way you’re not like completely lost.

I mean you don’t have to, but it’s kind of important because it leads up to this blog post, which is how I essentially expanded my very first business, if you want to call it business…

Customers Matter

So let’s get started. So for those of you who read yesterday’s blog post, I essentially started my own business in school selling NBA and NFL stitch jerseys that I was getting from China. Well, my friend’s dad was getting from China.

Anyway, explained to you how I messed up my first sale. I mean, I was so excited, you know, but I messed it up… But what I learned from that experience was incredible. That was the first time I realized how much the customer matters, even though, my “customer” didn’t care about getting a refund. The point was that I needed to deliver high quality products that would please my customers. If I’m going to sell something, I need to put the customer first.

Anyway, this episode is going to be about how I expanded the business. As you know, I already started going up to people who I knew there were huge sports fans and asking them, “Oh, if I can get you a nice stitched jersey, who do you want? Blah, blah blah.” But I obviously had to be to discrete about it. This was in school and there were rules against this kind of activity.

When I Was First Introduced To The Retail Space

Around this same time, I was finally able to get a real job at a supermarket when I was 16 that way I can make more money. I wanted more linear income and I had already cut off babysitting. As soon as I was hire, I immediately started working 40 hours a week. I didn’t care that I had school, I just, I wanted to make more money.

And this was the first time I got a glimpse of the retail space. Now obviously back then I didn’t view it as a big deal. I just viewed it as I can finally just make money.

While working at my super market job, I continued selling the jerseys to the kids in school on top of making money at my job. But of course I wanted an expand more…. I wanted more… I mean I wasn’t selling THAT many jerseys, but you know, I was still making some decent money off of them while making money at my job.

Introduced To A Whole New Platform

So I remember one morning I went into school and I remember talking about my job and I remember asking my friend, where he worked. I was just curious if you had a job or not, because he was a year older than me. He replied, “Ah nah man, I don’t have a job yet.”

So in my head I’m thinking like what, why? But I said to him, “Oh, but wouldn’t you want to make money?”

He’s like, “Man, you know what I’ve been doing to make money? I’ve been going to stores like Target, Walmart, Marshall’s and I’ve been just buying products at a lower price and selling them on eBay at a higher price and making money off the products I sell.”

I’m like, “Wait a second… Oh my, that, that’s such a good idea. That actually works?” I continued, He chuckled and said, “Yeah of course, if it didn’t, I wouldn’t be doing it!” Immediately I replied, “Hey listen, can you teach me how to do this?!?”

Remember, this was kinda during the time where selling on eBay was a fairly big thing. But this is what opened me up to the online platform…

Like rather than trying to sell stuff physically to people, eBay gives me an option to sell it, anybody in the nation…

So I was like with loads of excitement, “Oh man, you gotta teach me this way!!!” And he’s like, “For sure dude. I’ll come pick you up today after school, be ready by 3 o’clock sharp and I’ll show you step by step the process of how I make money selling stuff on eBay.”

The Process Begins!

So I’m sitting in school day, I’m so excited cause I can’t wait to learn this new opportunity that I’m about to learn. So the end of the school day finally arrives, it felt like an eternity…

He picked me up at my house 3 o’clock sharp like he said and we go to Walmart… As soon as we walk in, we immediately we go to the clearance rack and I’m looking at all this stuff and I look at him and say, “People actually buy this stuff dude?” I mean it’s not bad product, it’s just the clearance rack was a mess, so it just looked unappealing.

And he’s like, “Yeah, you’d be surprised.” So my friend starts sorting through all of it like a machine. Placing the stuff he wanted to buy on the left and the product he wasn’t interested in on the right. He’s talking to himself, “Oh this will sell for five bucks, this will sell for 10, this will sell for this, this, this.” This kid is a machine…

I’m thinking, wait what? Like what is going on right now? And he can see the strange look on my face and he says, “Oh yeah, I’ve been doing it for so long. I just know what’s what and what will sell for what.”

So I’m just thinking, alright, this is my first time. I’ll get the hang of it, you know, I’ll just keep watching him I’ll learn…

So then he throws the entire pile that was on the left into the shopping carriage proceeds to checkout, bags it up, pays, and leaves.

Round 2

Then head to Target and he does the same exact thing. Heads straight to the clearance rack sorts through all the stuff and again he’s talking to himself, I want this, this, this, this. I’m like, not this again… He finishes up and we head back to his house. My friend immediately hops on his computer and he starts listing all the items and I remember thinking what is going on right now?

I was so confused…

This was the first time anybody ever introduced me to like how to sell on eBay. So I was like, Oh, what’s going on right now? I was so confused, but very intrigued at the same time because I knew there was an opportunity for this. I knew this was a third way I can be making money. You know, I was already selling jerseys in school and I already had a real job. So like if I could just add this onto my income and do this in my spare time I could be making even more money. I’m thinking, “Oh yeah, I’m going to do it.”

So anyway, I’m watching my buddy list the products. I had no idea what was going on…

Ping Noise

And all of a sudden I hear a ping sound and he gets a notice…

It says, “Oh, you sold this product, make sure you ship now.” I’m like, “Wait, you just sold something already?!?”

He’s like, “Oh no, not a product I just bought, I bought the product that sold at least that last week ago.” But I was like, “Dude, that’s sweet, how much profit did you make off of that sale?”

He’s like, “Oh, I’ll make about $7 profit on this sale.” And that’s when I was just like, “Okay, this is what I want to be doing!”

At this time I had that one moment when I really recognized the opportunity and I was like, “Okay, yeah, I want to do this!”

My Attempt

So after watching him over multiple occasions and asking him questions after I had any confusion, I was finally ready…

So let’s just fast forward, I started selling on eBay myself. I’m like, okay, this is awesome. I now have three streams of income now. At the time I didn’t even realize it, but having multiple streams of income is huge. Like, yeah, I didn’t think anything of it. It was just like, okay whatever, I just want him make money this way, this way, this way. But now that I’m older and I’m more educated and I have more knowledge, that’s what you’re supposed to be doing.

You’re supposed to be building multiple streams of income so that you don’t rely on one income, thus eventually you want to stop giving up your time for money. You want to automate the entire process. So I was thinking like a millionaire and I didn’t even know it at the time.

Brilliant Idea

So anyway, I did that for awhile. And then one day, I wake up and am just laying in bed staring at my ceiling am I’m like aloud to myself, “Wait a second, I sold jerseys in school, I sell products online. How come I’m not selling jerseys online?!?!”

This was when I was like, man, this is a huge opportunity. So I get ready and I’m like waiting for the bus. And for those of you who know me, I’m late for everything. Literally everything. Even if it’s just hanging out with friends, I’m always late. “Hey. Mike, be there at 7:30 and I’ll show up at like 8:30 hahah. I think this was the first time in my life where I was like, “Oh my God, I need to get to school! I need to get school.”

Like I’ve never like actually thought that until then because I just couldn’t wait to tell my friend about this idea I had. I was just so excited. I finally arrive to school and I’m searching everywhere for my friend before homeroom starts. But I couldn’t find him. I’m annoyed and wondering where he is. I couldn’t find him at the time, but whatever.

So I actually happened to pass him in the hallway at one point and I said to him, “Yo dude, come to my locker after school. I have this awesome opportunity. I just thought of this idea that I think you’re going to absolutely love!”

My First Partner

So you know, the school day goes on. It felt like a drag, it felt like forever. But anyway, it finally ends and he shows up in my locker…

I’m like, “Dude, this morning I woke up and was just laying in bed and I thought of the best opportunity I think we can have right now. You know, you have mastered online sales, you have mastered eBay. I’ve mastered flipping NBA and NFL Jerseys.

And there was like this pause for like five seconds…

He didn’t really understand what I was saying…

I was like, “DUDE… put the two together! What if we sold my jerseys on eBay?!?!

His jaw drops and I now knew he had the same epiphany that I had had. He was like, “Dude, there’s so much potential in this…”

The Plan

I screamed, “YES!!!” I screamed it so loud that everyone turned and looked at me. So he’s like, “Alright, hey listen, I’m going to pick you up at your house and we’re going to go back to my house and we’re going to develop the plan. We’re gonna figure out how we’re going to do this because I am so excited right now. I just want, I want to start this right now.”

So he picks me up after school and we had back to his house. It was kind of odd because the whole car ride was actually pretty quiet…

I think we were both just trying to think of like what’s the best possible way we can do this. Realistically, we both could have done on our own, but I think we both thought that it would be better if we combined both our skill sets together.

Plus I told them I would still sell them in school. So it worked out perfect. He was going to handle the eBay sales and I was going to sell in school.

Now keep in mind I still did the same method I did earlier for this with the physical sales, but, but we decided that it would probably be best if we did the wholesale method for the eBay sales.

So what we did was we did some research and figure out who are the top players, what were the most desired jerseys to sell. So what we did was we just bought like 10 of each jersey. Now, I don’t remember exactly what jerseys you bought, except I do remember us buying 10 Darrelle Revis jerseys.

So we actually did this for a few months. Everything was going well and now we’re making tons of money, especially for our age.

Uh Oh…

But then something happened….

Something that never caused either of our minds…

eBay has suspended his account…

We were like, Wait what? No Way!

We had this huge plan for so long and now we’re stuck with 9 Darrelle Revis jerseys and some other jerseys?

We’re freaking out…

Like what do we do when your account just got suspended?

Like how are we going to sell the nine jerseys?

How are we going to keep making money online?

What Had Happened

So apparently a buyer flagged us for selling them a fake jersey. Now at the time I didn’t know that my friend was listing the jerseys as 100% authentic. So that was a huge issue. We were selling jerseys from China that looked real, but they really weren’t real…

So the buyers thought they were getting 100% authentic stitched jerseys when they were fake. Finally, this caught up to us, the one buy was extremely unhappy…

So eBy ended up suspending my friend’s account. So this was like the actual, like first time we both actually hit a wall. We just didn’t really know what to do.

So we were freaking out for awhile, but then like we didn’t realize the solution was like right in front of us…

We Figured It Out

All we had to do, she’s the open account under my name, but we didn’t figure that out until some time pass. So keep in mind, you know, by this time, this was when we just first started college. We went to local community college. So selling jerseys was no longer a main priority to us even though the money was good. Our priority shifted to school.

So one day we just randomly figured out, oh, why don’t we just open up a new account under my name? And so he started doing it again but…

The same exact thing happened again…

My account was now suspended…

So we mutually agreed on stopping selling jerseys all together…

And you know, we had made a decent amount of money on this, you know, but maybe the opportunity is gone. I already decided to stop selling in school as well because I had college to focus on. So just like that my first business was gone…

Now he had some leftover jerseys that we unfortunately did not sell. It’s pretty funny because my friend actually might still have like seven Darelle Revis jerseys in his house still. But I have no idea.

But it was fun while it lasted. So we both just decided, you know, let’s just focus on college. Like we’re trying to get our degrees, we’re trying to land a good job, so let’s just focus on college.

No Fakes! Lesson Learned!

But you know, I realized, not at the time, that we did learn a lesson, don’t sell fake products no matter how high of quality they are.

I mean, personally I don’t mind wearing fakes that jersey. As long as they look real and look good the I don’t care. But that’s just me.

Keep in mind, there are people out there that get really mad if they think they’re getting a real product and you get a fake one.

And also it’s not fair to the brand. I mean the NBA and NFL, they built up their brand. They deserve the money because they’ve built up the brand.

Now when we talk about profit margins, that’s a completely different story…

But if you can build such a powerful brand like that, you’ll have control over your consumers.

Bottom line, sell real stuff, especially, we’re going to sell big name brand products. Just sell the real stuff, don’t mess around and sell fake products!

So in tomorrow’s blog post, I’m going to tell you a little bit more about my story and it’s going to be a little bit different than the first 3 blogs!

But I wanted to share this story because it was kind of like my first business. I learned how to build the foundation. I learned how to expand on what I built upon.

So it was awesome. It was a good time period. You know, I made a decent amount of money off of it and it honestly had a pretty big impact on as to where I am today. So I feel like it was really important to tell that story.

Thank you!

So I just want to thank you guys for reading this blog post, it means a lot!. And if you didn’t read the first 2 blog posts, go back and read them because it all connects to each other, and that’s what my next blog post is going to be like. It’s going to be a connector to all three of the previous blog posts.

So again, my goal is to try to put out a blog/podcast/YouTube video/Facebook Live every single day. So stay tuned for blog post #4 as it is coming tomorrow!

Thank you very much for reading. I really appreciate it and I’ll talk to you next time!

My First Business

What is up everyone! Mike Rosko here! Welcome to my blog! I’m so excited for this blog post because for those of you tuned into episode one, this is a sequel of my first blog!

And it’s kind of like the follow up of my first valuable lesson. So for those of you who got the chance to read my blog post, First Valuable Lesson, you’ll understand that that story that I told in it was my first “A-ha” moment about money occurred.

That event that took place gave me that motivation to just want more money and it was kind of just my gateway to that bigger picture. So anyway, let me get started…

So after I had that moment, I still continued to do all of those side jobs, just so I had some source of income. Like I said, my mom had taught me at a young age that I had to work for my money!

First “Job”

But when I hit the age of 12 I actually started to make money babysitting.
And it’s actually pretty funny because back then I only got paid $4 an hour to babysit, sometimes six. But honestly, I really didn’t care as long as I was making money. And at that age, I mean I couldn’t get a real job, I was too young.

I’m not sure about other states, but you can’t get a job until you’re 16, so I just decided to start babysitting for now. It’s funny cause my mom always taught me to save, save, save money and literally imprinted it into my brain. I always to this day… Think about the grocery store story.

I always think, man if I could just keep saving money, I’m just going to have more and more and more and I can finally buy something that I really wanted. But anyway, so around that age, you know, I just babysat and I did a bunch of side jobs as I’ve explained before, such as mowing the lawn, cleaning houses, whatever anybody offered me I would do just to make money.

Unrecognized Opportunity

I was really content with what I was doing. But it’s actually pretty funny. It all started in middle school when I had this new opportunity where I didn’t even realize I had until a mistake had happened…

Now, for most of you who know me, you know I’m a huge sports fan. So one day, my friend, he comes up to me in school and he’s like, “Hey listen, I know you love sports. Myy dad found this website online and they sell NBA and NFL jerseys for super cheap, like I mean cheap, like $20 cheap.”

And I’m like, “Oh my God, these jerseys are usually going for $60 to $100 dollars a pop! Like do they look real? And he’s like, “Man, they’re stitched and everything and they look authentic, but they’re from China. So they’re not truly authentic.”

So I pause and start to think… and look up at him and say, “Yeah, you know what? I’m interested.” I mean, I definitely want to buy a Jersey if I’m going to get it for that cheap.

Now this goes back to the my previous blog post, where that valuable lesson taught me value. If I can get something for a fifth of the price, a quarter of the price, I’m definitely gonna buy it, especially if it’s my passion.

First “Business Connection”

So we were standing by my locker and he was like, “You have a pen and piece of paper, I’m going to write down their website and I’m going to give you my number. I want you to check out the website. I’m going to wear one of the jerseys I got from this website tomorrow that way you can take a look, see how good it looks. They’re awesome. I’m telling you, they’re awesome!”

Immediately, I scrambled for a pen and paper if I’m whatever I could. And I’m like, in my head, man, this is so sweet. Like I can finally get jerseys for super cheap.

I was so excited. So I handed my friend the pen and paper. He puts the paper and pen up against the locker and he writes the website and his phone number and hands me the piece of paper and he said again, “Hey, listen, I want you to look on the website. I’ll wear Jersey tomorrow and you can let me know.”

Excited About the Purchase, Not the Hidden Opportunity

So all I’m thinking about the entire school days, oh man, there’s so many players I want! Who am I going to choose?!?! I just got that rush of excitement.

So anyway, the school day ends, I get off the bus, run to my house and immediately hop on my computer. I take a look at the piece of paper typed in the website.

I go through the site and I’m like, oh my God, this is so sweet! I swear I must’ve spent hours on this website. I clicked on every team. You know, I wanted some basketball jerseys, football jerseys, baseball jerseys, but I was like, I should really just get one for now. I just want to make sure you know it’s perfect.

So I run through every team again and I’m like, “Oh yes!” aloud. I get to the Sacramento Kings and I’m like, this is it. this is what I want…

White Chocolate

Jason Williams, for those of you who don’t know who White Chocolate is, you need to watch his mix tape on YouTube. The man’s passes, were unreal…

I mean, I’m not going to just sit here and describe them, just go on YouTube and just type in Jason Williams mix tape…

Anyway, I just remember just sitting there. I’m like, hmm, do I want the black jersey or the purple one? I definitely don’t want white but I shuffled back and forth in my head… black, purple, black, purple…

Sneak Peak of the Product

So the next day at school, my friend comes in wearing this awesome
Steve Francis Blue Retro Jersey and for those of you who know that Jersey’s awesome and I’ll actually post the picture below showing you what jersey I’m referencing. But honestly that is one of my favorite jerseys.

I knew at some point I had to get this jersey too and I actually do have that jersey now. But anyway, I’m analyzing it, it’s stitched, it looks so real. And I’m like to my friend, “Okay, that’s it. You got me sold, you know, I’m definitely going to get a jersey.”

First Test Purchase

I told him, I’m like, “Listen, I want either purple or black, Jason Williams Sacramento Kings jersey.” And he’s replied, “Alright, awesome. Because my dad is one jersey short of getting free shipping.” Keep in mind, when you ordered professional sports jerseys from China back then, you would have to order 12 jerseys in order for them to ship to you for free.

I said to him with excitement, “Awesome, perfect I’m the 12th jersey. Just get me a Jason Williams Kings jersey please! I’ll have the money for you first thing tomorrow!”

I think most of the NBA jerseys on the website were $28 at the time. Now keep in mind authentic NBA jerseys, if you bought them on, they sold anywhere between $60 to $100. Even though they weren’t authentic, they looked authentic. They looked exactly the same. So I had no problem coughing of $28 for the jersey.

The Wait…

A week or so goes by and I’m like, alright, awesome, as he comes up to me and he’s like, “Hey, listen, we had a little bit of a problem with your jersey. I spoke with customer service and they only had the white one in stock in your size.”

I went from excitement to disappointment and replied, “Oh, you have got to be kidding me. Like that’s the only one I didn’t want. Can you just cancel it and I’ll get a different jersey instead.” My replied, “Dude, I’m sorry, I can’t. They already sent the order.”

Reluctantly I say, “Oh, all right, whatever. You know, I’m getting a jersey, I’ll just buy a black or purple one later on.” Another week goes by and the shipment comes in and I still remember how excited I was. You know, I wasn’t as excited as I should have been, I was a tad bit disappointed, but you know, it’s still an authentic looking jersey, so I was still super excited.

I see my friend that morning and he’s says to me, “Yeah, I have it in my locker. Just stop by on your way to the bus.” I reply, “Yes! Alright, cool! So I stopped by his locker and he turns, he hands me this beautifully plastic wrapped Jersey that was folded perfectly.

And the feeling was just like when you were younger and you just got that perfect Christmas gift when you unwrapped it and you’re like, oh, this is awesome. I’m so happy right now. As soon as I got home, I tried it on! Let’s just say, it was awesome!

Round 2

A couple months go by and my friend comes up to me at school, “Hey listen, my dad’s putting in another order. You want to order something?”

“I’m like, yeah dude, of course! I’ll call you tonight. I just want to go home, take a look at the website again and I’m going to tell you what I want. Is it cool if I get more than one this time?”

He’s like, “Yeah, get as you can get as many as you want. Just make sure you pay me prior to us ordering. So I want the money by tomorrow.” “Perfect!” I replied. Obviously I had the money because I’ve been babysitting and doing random side jobs. So I had the money. Again, I went home, hopped on my computer and began searching for hours…

I remember thinking, “You know what? I want the black J-Will jersey… I don’t care if I just bought the white one, I want the black one.” I made a list of jerseys I wanted him to order. It was like five or six I forget how much it was, but there was a couple NFL and there were like four NBA.

I got that same feeling of excitement again! So, I called them up. And I said, “Hey listen, these are the ones I want. If they don’t have anything in stock, just let me know. And he’s like, sounds good dude.” Luckily this time, everything I wanted was in stock!

The shipment arrives 2 weeks later and my friend hands me a box full of jerseys. So I go home, open the box, and again, I get that feeling. I was like, this is so awesome! I see all the jerseys.
I’m like, this is so sweet!

First Thought Of Selling!

I had the white J-Will Jersey hanging up to the left and I remember thinking, hmm, maybe I’ll try to sell this white jersey since I had just gotten the black one. Yeah… I’ll try to sell it…

Now, keep in mind, Jason Williams wasn’t like a huge star or anything, but if you’re a basketball fan, you know who he is. Like his passing was absolutely insane. His game was so crafty. He was just so fun to watch.

No Luck

So I go to school the next day and I go up to all the people that I knew that were huge NBA fans and I approached them, “Hey listen, I got a white J- Will Sacramento Kings jersey, would you be interested in buying it?” I must have asked at least 15 people over the course of a week!

“My friend’s dad gets the stitched NBA and NFL jerseys for cheap. I’ll sell you this brand new stitched white J-Will Jersey for 25 bucks! That’s it!” You know, I got some interest, but still again, like I said, J-Will wasn’t like this huge star that everybody wanted.

Now, I play point guard so to me personally, Jason Williams was like awesome, you know? But anyway, I must’ve went through at least 15 people and they all said no. And I thought to myself, “I guess I’ll just keep this jersey. I mean, what if something happens to my black Jersey anyway? I mean I’ll just keep the white. It’s cool.”

Went Right Over My Head

It’s actually pretty funny because I actually still have the jersey at this time AND I still have the black jersey! At first this one incident went right over my head…

Like I thought nothing of it…

But then I woke up a couple months later, I remember just laying in bed staring at my white ceiling and just thinking…

Put 2 And 2 Together

“Wait a second… my friend’s dad gets these jerseys for cheap. Why don’t I just sell them in school to people and make some money off of them?”…

My First Business Idea…

My First Crucial Business Epiphany…

It had hit me out of nowhere…

This has some serious potential… Everybody loves NBA jerseys, everybody loves NFL jerseys, and people like MLB jerseys. … And I know how to get some brand new stitched authentic looking jerseys…

I Had A “Business”

I could be selling these jerseys in school and making money. Now this goes back to my first valuable lesson post, where I was always trying to find ways to make money. This opportunity was right in front of my eyes and it took me MONTHS to realize it!

Figuring Out The Plan…

Now, this was when I was like, man, like this has huge potential. So I was just laying in bed staring at my wall and just thinking of a plan, I just wanted to just make more money. Like I knew the upside in this. Everybody wanted jerseys, what can I do?

So obviously I could sell in school, but should I just buy a bunch of jerseys and try to sell them or should I reach out to each individual person and say, “Hey listen, my friend’s dad gets these stitched brand new jerseys for cheap. Would you be interested in getting them as well?” and actually telling them that, so they could pick whatever jersey they wanted. That way I can just go home, go on the website, see if they had it and get back to them.

I Chose Option B…

So that’s what I did. I chose NOT to buy in bulk of the same jersey like Darelle Revis or LeBron James or Derrick Rose, Kobe Bryant, you know all the super stars. I thought it would be better if I just asked people what they wanted,

So I practiced what I was going to say to everyone, “Hey, if you had the choice, what would you want? Like, if I was able to get a stitched jersey for you of who ever you want it, I’ll sell NFL for $40, NBA for $50.” Most of them replied, “No way! You can get those jerseys that cheap?!?! Those things usually cost between $60 and $100 dollars! You can really get me a stitched so and so for only $40?!?”

I’m like, “Yeah! Just name the player you want! Name the color of Jersey you want! And I’ll go get it for you!”

My First Customer

And I remember the very first client I got, he was friend of mine. Actually, if he’s listening to this… I apologize in public for this! Hahahaha!

I was like, “You told me you wanted me to get you a jersey, which one did you want?” And he’s like, “I want to Steve Smith.” And I’m like, “Awesome dude, I love Steve Smith! I’ll get it for you! What color do you want?” “Blue!” And I’m like, “Okay, cool!”

I continued, “So it’s funny when you pick your sizes, they don’t go by like extra large and extra, extra large, large, medium, etc. They actually use a number system. I’ll get your jersey, but do you know what number you happen to be?” And he’s like, “Oh, honestly I have no idea. You know, I just usually buy an extra large.” I reply, “Alright, sweet!”

So when I got home, I checked on the website and I had finally put together a list of what I wanted. So I called my friend’s Dad. I told him what I wanted, “I want this, this, this, this, and I put my order in.

Proceeding on I stated, “Hey, can you also get a Steve Smith blue size 54? I will give your son all the money tomorrow morning at school.” And he’s like, “Oh, okay, perfect!” And he put in the order.

My First Sale Went Wrong…

Two weeks later to shipment comes, I hand over this perfectly wrapped, perfectly folded Jersey to my friend. He gives me 40 bucks. Both of us were sooo excited! In my head I’m thinking, “Dude, this is awesome. I just made like $15 profit on this 1 jersey and I didn’t even do anything really!”

As usual, I go into school the next morning and see my friend (the one I sold the jersey to) very early in the morning. We used to have to wake up at like 5 A.M., so you know I was so tired as usual. But I noticed my friend isn’t wearing the jersey! Immediately I thought maybe it was because he didn’t wash it.

Out of curiosity I asked him, “Hey dude, you said you were going to wear the jersey today. Why didn’t you wear it? You were so excited when I handed it to you!”

He’s like, ” My dude, it’s a size 54. It’s like I’m wearing a dress…”

My sense of curiousity suddenly turned into that “Oh no.. feeling…”

I had gotten the size wrong…

For those of you who know the number system of sizing, a size 54 is like an XXXL…

That wasn’t the only issue… the Jersey was white, not blue…

I messed up…

I was really excited just yesterday and was so proud of myself that I made my first “sale”I was so excited over the $15 profit I had made. I was so proud of myself that I thought of this business idea, just so I can screw up my first sale…

Fix The Problem

So immediately, I offered him a refund, especially since he was my friend.

But he declined, “Oh no, it’s cool man. I’ll just tuck it in, you know, it’ll be cool. It’s, it’s really not a big deal.” But I could obviously sense the disappointment in his voice.

But that’s when I realized..,

I really have to pay attention to the color and size…

I have to pay attention to my customers. Without customers, I wouldn’t have a business. Customers are the most important part of a business!

Especially since this was the second time that an order got messed up…

But I had learned…

I actually never made that mistake again!

It was definitely a lesson learned! It woke me up, if I was going to make money off of something, I need to deliver a product that my customers would want. It needs to be high quality! I just want my friends and my high school acquaintances to just feel the same feeling of excitement that I got when I got my first jersey!

Lesson Learned

So I knew I wasn’t going to screw that up again!

So that was like the first sense of business. I had made some profit and I knew I had something big… something with huge potential…

But now I’m going to stop this story here because there’s actually more to it! I want to break it up into two blog posts! So if you’re interested in reading up on the sequel to this story look for my next blog coming out tomorrow!

As most of you know, I’m trying to post every day, whether it’s a blog, YouTube, videos, podcasts, etc. Regardless, my goal is the post every day.

My First Valuable Lesson!

Hey what’s up everyone! Mike Rosko here. First thing I want to do is officially welcome you to my blog!

So over the past couple years I’ve been learning from directly from some of the top business leaders, investors, and mentors to get me to the point to where I am today.

Follow my journey, as I document both to good and bad on the way.

But first let me start by telling you my story as to where it all began.

This is where I learned my first valuable lesson!

Something We All Hated Back In The Day!

Let me take you way back, well… to my mother.

Like all of us did as little kids, we would beg, cry, throw a temper tantrum make a huge scene and unintentionally embarrass our parents just so we could get our parent(s) to buy us something we wanted.

Now some parents would just give their kids whatever they want just to get them to stop causing a scene.

But not my mom… Never my mom…

I can still to this day hear my mom’s voice in my head, every time I wanted her to buy me something, she would say, “Michael, you really don’t need this. If you want this, you’re going to have to use your own money to buy it.”

Now obviously at that age, the only money I had was birthday money from family members. Yes… family members not my parents. I have never gotten a birthday gift from my parents in my life…

Some of you are probably thinking, “Wait… what?…”

Yeah… my mom doesn’t believe in giving my sisters and I birthday gifts.

But it’s funny because, at the time, I never understood it, but now that I’m older, I understand the lesson that she had taught me…

We Went To The Store

shopping carriage
Shopping Carriage

Now remember, this was when Pokemon was THE THING.

So I remember this one specific incident when my mom took me with her to the store. I remember begging my mom to buy me a pack of Pokemon cards.

But again, my mom would turn and look right at me and say, “Michael, you really don’t need these cards. If you really think it’s a good idea to buy these, you’re going to have to use your birthday money to buy them.”

I shuffled through all the packs hoping to pick the pack that had the rare holographic Charizard card (for those of you who don’t know, this was THE card every kid dreamed of getting) and picked up the pack and threw it in the shopping carriage.

But my mom just stood there and didn’t move and I looked at her with curiosity and wondered why she wasn’t moving…

My Desires Said Yes, But My Gut Said No

That’s when 1 voice in my head screamed, “PUT THE PACK OF CARDS BACK!” And the other voice in my head screamed, “BUT I WANT THEM!”

My mom still didn’t move the carriage, but then looked at me and said, “Michael, you’re a smart boy. Do you really think buying these pack of cards is a smart thing to waste your birthday money on?”

So reluctantly I reached down in the shopping carriage, nearly falling in the process, but still managing to grab the pack of cards, turned around, and put them back on the shelf.

As most kids feel, I remember feeling so angry, disappointed, sad all at once. You know, the same feeling as to when the outcome doesn’t result in the way you expected?

All I could think about was how bad I wanted just 1 pack of Pokemon cards, but the way my mother spoke to me about it made me immediately think I shouldn’t buy them.

Meanwhile all I could think about was about how my friends’ parents were buying my friends tons and tons of Pokemon cards.

I guess my mom could just see the expression of disappointment on my face and obviously recognize how quiet I got.

But she turned and said to me, “I know exactly how you’re feeling right now.”

I said, angrily, sad, and disappointed, “NO YOU DON’T!”

The First Of Many Lessons

Immediately, my mom stopped me mid shouting and said, “But Michael, imagine, since you didn’t buy this 1 pack now, you are able to save up more money to buy something bigger!”

That’s when I looked over at the Booster Boxes that were on the shelf directly next to the packs of cards, and looked back at her, then looked back at the Booster Boxes and smiled…

I knew what I wanted…

This was the very first time I had one of those “A-Ha” moments…

Think Back

I want to stop telling this story for just a second…

I want you to think long, hard, and way back to the very first time you learned your first valuable lesson about money.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be a family member, it could be a friend, acquaintance, anybody.

But think back and comment below and tell me the story about the first valuable lesson you learned about money!

Back To The Story!

So as my mom and I continued shopping, I was getting that feeling of excitement because I was thinking about how the next time I go to the store with my mom I’m going to get 1 of those Booster Boxes.

I started to develop this huge plan in my mind about how I was going to save up to get a Booster Box.

But I went from excitement to disappointment within minutes when I realized…

My Problem

My birthday just passed….

I really didn’t want to wait until Christmas to get that Booster Box!

So I asked my mom how I could to make the money to buy. Keep in mind, in my household, there was no such thing as allowance. My sisters and I were supposed to do chores because we lived under their roof.

By the way… That’s another valuable lesson I learned, but never understood when I was younger.

Anyway, I started figuring out tons of ways to make money. Keep in mind, I was still young, so my options were limited.

I Finally Had It!

So I would make money from anything between a lemonade stand, cleaning houses, mowing lawns, and so on…

But I remember sitting in the classroom all day overcome with emotions of excitement. I couldn’t wait to go home.

I remember getting off the bus and sprinting to my front door. I swung open the front door and threw my backpack on the living room floor, my backpack almost hit my cat.

I sprinted up the stairs, grabbed my wallet, grabbed my piggy back and started aggressively trying to get all the coins out of my piggy bank.

I had finally gotten all the money out, scattered everywhere on my floor. I started to sort all my dollar bills, five dollar bills, and I had one ten dollar bill. Then I started to sort out all the coins I had by quarters, dimes, nickels, pennies.

Once everything was all sorted, I started counting, starting with the biggest bills…

$10…$15…$20…$21…$22…$23… and so on…

All of a sudden I felt this indescribable feeling of excitement, sense of accomplishment, proud all at once. You know that feeling when you work for something and reach your goals? Well that feeling…

I FINALLY had enough money for a Booster Box!

I Went To The Store Again

Once I was done counting, I ran into my mom’s room and asked her, “When are you going to the store again? I want to go! I finally have enough money to get a Booster Box!”

So the next day I went to the store with my mom and we got to the Pokemon shelf. Just like every other kid, I was so excited to finally get the Booster Box.

But This Time Was Special…

I worked for this Booster Box. I deserve this Booster Box, I earned it!

So again, I shuffled through the Booster Boxes and chose the “lucky” Booster Box that I thought contained the holographic Charizard.

This time I placed it in the cart ensuring I was very careful with it.

It Happened Again!

Similar to the last time… My mom just stood there and didn’t move…

She said the same thing… “Michael, do you really think you need this? I know you worked and saved up all your money to get this, but is it really worth it?”

I quickly replied, “YES!”

“But Michael, imagine if you don’t buy this now, you can save up even more money to buy something EVEN bigger!”

This time was different…

For some reason, it didn’t bother me as much this time. I paused and looked at the Booster Pack and thought to myself, “You know what mom? You’re right I worked hard for my money.”

I calmly picked the Booster Pack out of the cart and quietly put it back on the shelf.

My first valuable lesson.

4 Lessons Learned

My first valuable lesson! One of many!

For some people this story may mean nothing, but this was a critical point in my life and I’m grateful for learning these lessons when I was young.

This is when I learned not only 1 lesson, but 4…

  • Instant gratification is only temporary and having the willpower to not spend goes a LONG way
  • You have to work for you money
  • There are unlimited ways to make money
  • The birth of understanding value
